Auto Insurance High Risk Drivers May Need

A high risk driver is usually a driver which by insurance companies is considered to be a risk, like a teenager who has just been awarded their license. Someone who has had a long period of time go by in between auto insurance policies is another example of a person who is considered to be a high risk driver. Then of course there are the common cases of chronic speeders and those who have been convicted of driving under the influence – these are definitely considered high risk drivers if they are permitted to drive at all. Some have restricted privileges and must carry an SR22 policy.

In addition to the SR22 form, a high risk driver may need a bigger package than a driver who is not high risk. While a regular driver with no violations can get away with liability on a pre-owned car, a high risk driver may be required to carry liability, collision insurance and medical insurance. They may also need underinsured or uninsured motorist coverage and comprehensive coverage against damage from natural causes or vandalism. Of course this requirement varies so it is important to be clear on exactly what kind of insurance you need to have to drive legally.
